Prime Minister Mark Carney and his crew have been doing all to maximize investment for his Defence Industrial Strategy and Canada’s membership in NATO. While he mouths words about Canadian self-reliance and nation-building for the benefit of the workers, it is plain to see they are operating for the benefit of the bankers. The Liberal Party schemes are intended to increase prosperity for the oligarchy and their biggest patrons, including weapons producers and mineral extractors.

After a trip to the UK, Defense Minister McGuinty hosted a private meeting in Toronto with war industry leaders.https://www.readthemaple.com/david-mcguinty-met-with-secret-list-of-war-industry-leaders/ Why the secrecy? –likely because McGuinty, Carney and the Liberal team fear the public response.

The Maple notes that McGuinty held a meeting with representatives of nine pension funds right after the above-mentioned war industry meeting. Some of those funds are public, such as the Ontario teachers’ and Ontario Municipal workers’ funds. Since, as readers probably know, pension funds are investment holdings for big corporations which are vulnerable to stock market instability, no doubt the Liberal government is inviting (more) war industry investments in pension funds. Gambling with pensions is never good for the workers who pay into such funds expecting to reap future benefits; recall that the Canada Pension Fund is also subject to stock market trading and lost millions of dollars of the people’s money during the crash of 2008.

A press release of the Department of National Defense confirms that the intention of McGuinty’s closed meeting with the pension funds personnel was to develop collaboration between them and the Defence Industrial Strategy. https://www.readthemaple.com/david-mcguinty-met-with-secret-list-of-war-industry-leaders/ An example of the projects in line for heavier investment is the government’s persistence in pursuing the purchase of 88 F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin. Though stalling over the past year, after 16 of these jets were contracted and preparations for their use begun; the Liberals have restored loyalty to the Lockheed Martin corporations, probably the richest and most powerful arms producer, and US imperialism.

Another piece of alarming news related to investment for militarization is the appointment of a defense department leader, Chief of Staff in 2005, to the newly created position of Strategic Defense Advisor to the National Bank of Canada. https://yvesengler.com/2026/08/13/top-general-gets-spot-in-canadas-military-financial-complex/ The National Bank just joined the Canadian Association of Defense and Security Industries (CADSI) and participated in the annual arms trade show in Ottawa last May. The Bank’s new advisor is General R. Hillier, renown for his enthusiastic involvement in Afghanistan and fervent support of Israeli Zionism.

The Defense Industrial Strategy (see JPN issue 9) is clearly intended to integrate military expansion with the whole economy. McGuinty’s recent meetings complement Carney’s “Sovereign Wealth Fund” for foreign and domestic investment into Canadian infrastructure, including military infrastructure (see JPN Issue 14), the “war bank” or Defense, Security and Resilience Bank (see JPN issue 12) and the upcoming investment summit in Toronto scheduled for September 14 and 15, 2026.

Opponents of the scheme to keep the Canadian economy on a war footing, invest in death and destruction and turn over vast amounts of the people’s money to war profiteers are organizing a challenge. The Money for Many’s campaign and Capitalism Can’t be Fixed–Towards a Socialist Future are planning various protests and discussions around the summit in September.

Around 100 CEO’s of the richest enterprises, including Blackrock, Blackstone and Barclays, are invited to what Carney has ambitiously dubbed “Davos in Toronto.” The PM is praying for a commitment of one trillion dollars in investments over the next five years to be generated from it.

This mobilization of capital goes in tandem with legislative initiatives intended to make things as easy as possible for investors. The International League of Peoples’ Struggle marks the 81st anniversary of the US nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with renewed vigour to struggle against the US war machine and the threat that nuclear-armed imperialist states pose to the world today. The League calls on its members to expose the hypocrisy of the US, “Israel”, and other Western nuclear-armed states in using supposed “prevention of nuclear proliferation” to wage wars of aggression against their rival states like Iran all while increasing their own nuclear stockpiles to catastrophic levels.

On August 6 and 9, 1945, the United States obliterated the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively with nuclear weapons – the only time it has been used against civilians. The ground temperature reached up to 4000 degrees Celsius (7,200 degrees Fahrenheit), killing over 200,000 people. The reason for the bombing was not to end the war, as the Soviet Union’s victory over Japan in occupied Manchuria would have proven to be decisive for surrender. Rather, it was to solidify the United States as the top imperialist power that was not afraid to use nuclear weapons in war, especially the rising socialist and national liberation movements at the close of World War 2.

The subsequent proliferation of nuclear weapons after World War II, its use for intimidation by imperialist powers such as the US, and its contrasting use for resistance by socialist countries and/or those asserting their national sovereignty such as the USSR and DPRK is covered in our statement last year, which is hyperlinked here.

Last year’s anniversary occurred shortly after the Twelve-Day War, where the US and ”Israel“ attacked Iran under the pretext of ‘non-compliance with its nuclear obligations to the IAEA’. Since then, the United States and “Israel” have launched yet another war of aggression against Iran and other forces within the Axis of Resistance such as in Lebanon and Yemen.

It is clear that their true intention is to conquer Iran, the fulcrum of the Axis of Resistance that prevents full US-Zionist domination of the region. The Islamic Republic of Iran has, since its founding, expressed publicly that it never intends to build a nuclear weapon and has asserted its right to develop a civilian nuclear energy and research program. Such fear-mongering against Iran is hypocritical when “Israel” possesses several of its own without the oversight of the IAEA. It is even more hypocritical when Trump has threatened to attack Iran with “the biggest attack since World War II,” a direct reference to the its own nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Calling for the abolition of all nuclear weapons is unrealistic and tantamount to supporting imperialist hegemony when the United States still holds one of the largest nuclear arsenals in the world. Instead, we call for the US to be disarmed of all nuclear weapons as it is historically proven to be the #1 threat to the world’s people and the leading factor of the nuclear arms race. ILPS once again calls to build broad alliances and wage militant struggle to end US imperialism, the number one nuclear terrorist in the world, as a step towards ending the imperialist system as a whole and therefore the logic that gives rise to the existential threat to humanity that nuclear weapons are.

We can achieve genuine just and lasting peace in this world once imperialism, the biggest driver of war and weapons of mass destruction, is crushed, swept, and thrown into the dustbin of history. 81 years later, the League calls to continue our efforts to intensify the struggle and broaden our international united front against US imperialism, forward our struggles of national liberation and sovereignty, and fight for a socialist future that would make complete disarmament of nuclear weapons even a possibility.

Bolivian People Stand Strong and Demand President Rodrigo Paz To Resign!

Statement of the ILPS Bolivia Country Chapter – Originally Published May 22, 2026

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle, Chuquisaca Chapter, condemns the advance of neoliberal policies driven by imperialist interests and stands in solidarity with the protests organized by social organizations, trade unions, and grassroots communities.

Since late 2025, Bolivia has been engulfed in one of the most serious political and economic crisis in its modern history. The victory of US-backed, centre-right President Rodrigo Paz Pereira in October 2025 — ending nearly two decades of Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) governance — raised concerns that the economic program of the new government is redirecting towards neoliberal policies. In December 2025, his administration’s decision to eliminate long-standing fuel subsidies through Supreme Decree 5503, dubbed the ‘Gasolinazo,’ doubled fuel prices overnight and ignited a nationwide wave of protests. This was followed by another anti-peasant Law 1720 which opens the door to a major landgrab by the local elite and foreign corporations. The protests, led by miners, teachers, Indigenous communities, and labor unions under the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB), have escalated into calls for Paz’s resignation amid fuel shortages, soaring inflation, and economic reforms that serve elite and foreign interests rather than ordinary Bolivians.

As members of the Chuquisaca chapter of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), we declare that Bolivia is at a decisive historical juncture. Allowing the advance of neoliberal policies driven by agro-industrial elites, with a government subservient to imperialist interests and foreign to the people, would mean deepening the economic, social, and political crisis afflicting our country. In light of this situation, we declare: We support the mobilization of social organizations, unions, trade associations, and popular sectors demanding the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz, as the measures taken by the government have systematically harmed the vast majority of the population and, especially, the most impoverished sectors of the country. Since coming to power, the government of Rodrigo Paz—elected with the vote of the popular social bloc under a nationalist and populist platform—has betrayed the people’s expectations by governing in favor of the economic elites. Under the contradictory slogan of “Capitalism for All,” he has imposed anti-people decrees and policies: the lifting of fossil fuel subsidies, a wage freeze, the promotion of privatizations, and the opening of the country to imperialist interference, applying the neoliberal recipe that has caused so much harm to Bolivia and the region.

These measures have further deteriorated the living conditions of working people, who are now taking to the streets. We reject the privatization attempts and the package of laws promoted by the government, as they constitute a violation of the Political Constitution of the State and respond to the impositions of the International Monetary Fund, subjecting the country to usurious loans that jeopardize our sovereignty and condemn the people to greater levels of poverty and dependence. We also denounce the persistent racism expressed in government discourse and amplified by the media apparatus that supports it. A discourse of hate has been deliberately instilled against the mobilized sectors, criminalizing indigenous, peasant, and working-class identities, and promoting division among Bolivians. Acts such as the burning of the Wiphala—a national symbol and historical emblem of the struggle of the indigenous and peasant peoples—demonstrate the elites’ profound contempt for the plurinational character of our State. We denounce the excessive use of violence by police forces and the militarization of repression against the mobilized population. The indiscriminate use of chemical agents and lethal force has resulted in injuries, deaths, and serious collateral damage. Police and military institutions must serve to protect the people, not to persecute and kill them.

Likewise, we denounce the manipulation of the justice system and its subjugation to the executive branch, evidenced by the arrest warrants issued against COB leaders and other social leaders, as well as the mass detention of protesters treated as criminals simply for wearing a poncho or a pollera or for representing the popular and indigenous identity of our country. We support the organization and revolutionary mobilization of the indigenous, worker, and union bloc in defense of our homeland and the interests of the Bolivian people, against those who seek to hand over our natural resources and subject the country to foreign interests. Bolivia’s resources are not for sale. Our dignity, our sovereignty, and the Plurinational State are non-negotiable. We are a country of 36 nations that firmly resists neoliberalism and imperialism; a people who will not kneel or accept becoming lackeys of external powers.

CANADA: REJECT THE BLOCKADE ON CUBA!

Defend Canadian Sovereignty: Ottawa Must Reject Washington’s Illegal Economic War Against Cuba

STATEMENT FROM THE CANADIAN NETWORK ON CUBA

The Government of Canada must take immediate and decisive action in defense of Canadian sovereignty, international law, and the right of Canadian companies to conduct lawful business free from foreign coercion and intimidation.

The latest escalation of the United States’ decades-long economic war against Cuba by the Trump administration—through its May 1, 2026 Executive Order—constitutes yet another illegal attempt to extend U.S. domestic law beyond its borders and impose Washington’s unilateral sanctions regime on the entire world. This represents not merely an attack on Cuba, but a direct assault on Canada’s sovereignty, on international trade law, and on the principle that no state has the right to dictate the economic relations of other nations. The consequences are already evident.

In the wake of the Executive Order, Canadian-based Sherritt International Corporation—one of the most important Canadian investors in Cuba and a key player in Canada’s critical minerals sector—announced the suspension of its direct participation in joint venture activities in Cuba, the repatriation of personnel, and warned that financial and operational pressures stemming from U.S. sanctions may cripple its activities. The resignation of board members and the uncertainty now facing the corporation underscore the chilling effect of Washington’s campaign of economic intimidation. This is economic coercion of the highest order.

The United Nations General Assembly has condemned the U.S. blockade against Cuba overwhelmingly and repeatedly for more than three decades. The blockade and its extraterritorial application violate the UN Charter, international law, freedom of navigation and trade, and the sovereign equality of states. Yet Washington continues to intensify this economic siege, now seeking to punish not only Cuba, but also Canadian companies, Canadian workers, and Canadian economic interests.

The current escalation is rooted in the infamous Helms-Burton Act of 1996, legislation designed explicitly to internationalize the U.S. blockade by threatening foreign corporations and governments that engage in lawful commerce with Cuba. At the time, Canada recognized the grave danger posed by this unprecedented assertion of extraterritorial jurisdiction and amended the Foreign Extraterritorial Measures Act (FEMA) precisely to counteract Helms-Burton and protect Canadian sovereignty.

The question now is simple and unavoidable: Will Ottawa finally enforce the Foreign Extraterritorial Measures Act?

Canada cannot continue to proclaim opposition to the blockade rhetorically at the United Nations while effectively capitulating to Washington’s illegal dictates in practice. The purpose of FEMA was not symbolic. It was enacted to shield Canadian corporations and citizens from precisely this type of U.S. interference.

If the Canadian government fails to act now, FEMA becomes little more than a hollow gesture, and Canada effectively concedes that U.S. law supersedes Canadian law on Canadian soil.

Ottawa must therefore:

Publicly denounce the Trump administration’s Executive Order as an illegal extraterritorial measure that violates international law and Canadian sovereignty;

Immediately invoke and enforce the Foreign Extraterritorial Measures Act to protect Canadian corporations operating lawfully in Cuba;

Provide legal, diplomatic, and financial protections to Canadian firms targeted by U.S. sanctions;

Coordinate with Mexico, the European Union, CARICOM nations, and other states opposing the blockade to resist Washington’s unlawful coercive measures; and

Reaffirm Canada’s longstanding opposition to the U.S. blockade and demand its complete and unconditional end.

This issue extends beyond Cuba. If Canada accepts Washington’s ability to punish Canadian enterprises for engaging in lawful commerce with a third country, then Canada ceases to exercise meaningful economic sovereignty. Today it is Cuba. Tomorrow it could be any country or sector that falls afoul of U.S. geopolitical objectives.

Moreover, the attack on Sherritt is particularly revealing. Sherritt operates strategically important nickel and cobalt refining capacity in Alberta—critical minerals essential to the global energy transition and North American industrial supply chains. The irony is staggering: while Washington speaks endlessly about securing critical mineral independence, its policies are actively undermining one of North America’s key refining operations because of its relationship with Cuba.

This demonstrates once again that the U.S. blockade is not driven by “human rights” or “democracy,” but by the long-standing policy and campaign of economic warfare, sabotage and destabilization aimed at strangling Cuba regardless of the collateral damage inflicted internationally. Canada must choose whether it will defend its sovereignty and uphold international law, or whether it will permit itself to be subordinated to the extraterritorial dictates of a foreign power: whether to join empire or challenge it.

Silence and inaction are not neutrality. They amount to acquiescence.

END THE OCCUPATION OF WESTERN SAHARA!

The Communist Party of Canada strongly condemns the statement made by Foreign Minister Anita Anand regarding the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara. On April 28, during a meeting with her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, she publicly declared that “Canada [recognizes] Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara as the basis for a mutually acceptable solution and as a serious and credible initiative toward a just and lasting settlement of the conflict.”

This statement was made possible by the U.N. Security Council’s about-face, which unanimously adopted Resolution 2729 on October 31, 2025. Only Algeria boycotted this vote, which was an affront to the right to self-determination and sovereignty—and thus to the very founding principle underlying of the United Nations Charter.

Before that, Western Sahara had been internationally recognized as Africa’s last colony and had rejected the Moroccan occupation of its territory. Similarly, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Western Sahara and Rio de Oro (POLISARIO) was recognized as the sole representative of the Sahrawi people. Consequently, since 1991, the UN has organized a special mission, MINURSO, aimed at holding a referendum on the sovereignty of Western Sahara. This has been recognized until recently as the only possible and acceptable solution.

However, Morocco stalls and plays a game of hesitation to prevent such a referendum from taking place. It is colonizing Sahrawi territory, exploiting the natural and fishery resources of the occupied territory in complete violation of international law, and has even resumed the war against the Polisario Front in November 2020. Meanwhile, the Moroccan Makhzen (the ruling establishment) is stepping up its international offensives and blackmail, thereby forging alliances with the United States under Trump, Israel, Macron’s France, and even Spain—which, as a former colonial power, is recognized under international law as the country responsible for the decolonization of Western Sahara.

Instead of defending the sovereignty of the people of Western Sahara and facilitating their legitimate aspiration for the independence of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, the UN Security Council is now calling for support for a Moroccan “autonomy plan.” This fig leaf does not conceal the true objective: a plan for perpetual occupation.

It is hardly surprising that Canada is following suit. The economic stakes are too high, particularly access to Western Sahara’s phosphate reserves. Likewise, a country that refuses to recognize the existence of multiple nations within its borders—and, even more so, their right to self-determination, including secession—has no interest in guaranteeing this inalienable democratic right to some 600,000 “children of the clouds”.

As communists, we reiterate our solidarity with the POLISARIO Front and its just struggle for the liberation of Africa’s last colony, Western Sahara, and the subsequent establishment of a sovereign and independent Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. We call on all progressive, democratic, and pro-sovereignty forces to condemn the position taken by Minister Anand. Instead of promoting a plan for perpetual occupation, Canada should urge the UN to reaffirm its historic position in favor of a referendum on self-determination and thus support the decolonization of Western Sahara. We cannot accept the normalization of such a colonial occupation, which would have particularly grave implications, notably in Palestine, and would further entrench imperialist interests in the United Nations.

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful

To the people of the United States of America, and to all those who, amid a flood of distortions and manufactured narratives, continue to seek the truth and aspire to a better life:

Iran—by this very name, character, and identity—is one of the oldest continuous civilizations in human history. Despite its historical and geographical advantages at various times, Iran has never, in its modern history, chosen the path of aggression, expansion, colonialism, or domination. Even after enduring occupation, invasion, and sustained pressure from global powers—and despite possessing military superiority over many of its neighbors—Iran has never initiated a war. Yet it has resolutely and bravely repelled those who have attacked it.

The Iranian people harbor no enmity toward other nations, including the people of America, Europe, or neighboring countries. Even in the face of repeated foreign interventions and pressures throughout their proud history, Iranians have consistently drawn a clear distinction between governments and the people they govern. This is a deeply rooted principle in Iranian culture and collective consciousness—not a temporary political stance.

For this reason, portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical reality nor with present-day observable facts. Such a perception is the product of political and economic whims of the powerful—the need to manufacture an enemy in order to justify pressure, maintain military dominance, sustain the arms industry, and control strategic markets. In such an environment, if a threat does not exist, it is invented.

Within this same framework, the United States has concentrated the largest number of its forces, bases, and military capabilities around Iran—a country that, at least since the founding of the United States, has never initiated a war. Recent American acts of aggression launched from these very bases have demonstrated how threatening such a military presence truly is. Naturally, no country confronted with such conditions would forgo strengthening its defensive capabilities. What Iran has done—and continues to do—is a measured response grounded in legitimate self-defense, and by no means an initiation of war or aggression.

Relations between Iran and the United States were not originally hostile, and early interactions between the Iranian and American people were not marred with hostility or tension. The turning point, however, was the 1953 coup d’état—an illegal American intervention aimed at preventing the nationalization of Iran’s own resources. That coup disrupted Iran’s democratic process, reinstated dictatorship, and sowed deep distrust among Iranians toward U.S. policies. This distrust deepened further with America’s support for the Shah’s regime, its backing of Saddam Hussein during the imposed war of the 1980s, the imposition of the longest and most comprehensive sanctions in modern history, and ultimately, unprovoked military aggression—twice, in the midst of negotiations—against Iran.

Yet all these pressures have failed to weaken Iran. On the contrary, the country has grown stronger in many areas: literacy rates have tripled—from roughly 30% before the Islamic Revolution to over 90% today; higher education has expanded dramatically; significant advances have been achieved in modern technology; healthcare services have improved; and infrastructure has developed at a pace and scale incomparable to the past. These are measurable, observable realities that stand independent of fabricated narratives.

At the same time, the destructive and inhumane impact of sanctions, war, and aggression on the lives of the resilient Iranian people must not be underestimated. The continuation of military aggression and recent bombings profoundly affect people’s lives, attitudes, and perspectives. This reflects a fundamental human truth: when war inflicts irreparable harm on lives, homes, cities, and futures, people will not remain indifferent toward those responsible.

This raises a fundamental question: Exactly which of the American people’s interests are truly being served by this war? Was there any objective threat from Iran to justify such behavior? Does the massacre of innocent children, the destruction of cancer-treatment pharmaceutical facilities, or boasting about bombing a nation back to the Stone Age serve any purpose other than further damaging the United States’ global standing?

Iran pursued negotiations, reached an agreement, and fulfilled all its commitments. The decision to withdraw from that agreement, escalate toward confrontation, and launch two acts of aggression in the midst of negotiations were destructive choices made by the U.S. government—choices that served the delusions of a foreign aggressor.

Attacking Iran’s vital infrastructure—including energy and industrial facilities—directly targets the Iranian people. Beyond constituting a war crime, such actions carry consequences that extend far beyond Iran’s borders. They generate instability, increase human and economic costs, and perpetuate cycles of tension, planting seeds of resentment that will endure for years. This is not a demonstration of strength; it is a sign of strategic bewilderment and an inability to achieve a sustainable solution.

Is it not also the case that America has entered this aggression as a proxy for Israel, influenced and manipulated by that regime? Is it not true that Israel, by manufacturing an Iranian threat, seeks to divert global attention away from its crimes toward the Palestinians? Is it not evident that Israel now aims to fight Iran to the last American soldier and the last American taxpayer dollar—shifting the burden of its delusions onto Iran, the region, and the United States itself in pursuit of illegitimate interests?

Is “America First” truly among the priorities of the U.S. government today?

I invite you to look beyond the machinery of misinformation—an integral part of this aggression—and instead speak with those who have visited Iran. Observe the many accomplished Iranian immigrants—educated in Iran—who now teach and conduct research at the world’s most prestigious universities, or contribute to some of the most advanced technology firms in the West. Do these realities align with the distortions you are being told about Iran and its people?

As an imperialist nation, the overall goal of the US is to retain its number one spot among imperialist powers by ensuring US monopoly capitalist interests. Each new administration lays out their National Security Strategy (NSS) as a program to set the direction, strategy and tactics they will carry out. The National Defense Strategy (NDS) then follows to lay out the implementation priorities carried out by its military-industrial complex.

The opportunity is ripe to grow the mass movement against US imperialist war. Across different classes, sectors and issues, people can be drawn into the struggle by linking the US’ neglect of people’s basic needs to the prioritization of war. Students are faced with limited options to continue paying for higher education or serving in the military or becoming ICE agents. Many education fields are also geared towards working for war profiteers or surveillance. Migrants are forced from their homelands as their countries are ravaged by US wars of aggression and corporate plunder. Workers experience the brunt of the economic crisis and have a central role to play in strengthening the anti-war movement in the US. We all have a stake in the fight and must work together – joining forces with people of faith working for peace, environmental groups concerned about the impacts of militarism, and more. By taking joint action around concrete demands to fight back against US militarism, the movement can build its strength and create even greater change.

Statement of the ILPS

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle vehemently condemns the US, Zionist, and other imperialist foreign meddling in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the violence instigated within the country in another attempt to destroy the Iranian nation and control its natural resources, as they are doing in Venezuela and are attempting to do in Greenland. The ILPS stands with the people of Iran as they stand united against imperialist aggression and defend their hard fought-for self-determination so that any decision on Iran’s future is one made by the Iranian people themselves.

At the start of the new year, protests began mounting across the country demanding an end to government inefficiency and calling for more effective economic policies to help stave off the crippling effects of US sanctions on the livelihoods of working people and small business owners in the country. Sanctions imposed by the US have led to drastic shortages in basic goods such as medicine, building materials, and access to credit, and has led to skyrocketing inflation on other goods. US officials, most notably US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, have openly declared the intent of US sanctions to be the destruction of economic livelihood of the people so as the accelerate uprisings against the Iranian government to assist in its overthrow.

Yet, these public demonstrations calling for economic reforms were very quickly co-opted by other people, some openly claiming to be part of Iranian groups opposing the government of the Islamic Republic and others not claiming or hiding their organizational affiliation, who used the demonstrations to call for the overthrow of the current government. Simultaneously, masked provocateurs began using melee weapons, explosives, and even guns to attack government buildings, mosques, businesses, and assault police and civilians, killing many.

As these violent attacks increased, Iranian military and eventually the military was deployed to end the sabotage. The increase in state forces to quell the violence was used by the leaders who co-opted the economic reform-oriented demonstrations to inflame passions against the police and government, calling out more people to the streets and using larger protests as cover for deadlier riots by masked provocateurs.

Exploiting the situation and relying on a lack of clarity in Western media about the situation on the ground, both US and Zionist public figures began calling for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic and openly acknowledged the presence of CIA and Mossad operatives in Iran directing the violent attacks and threatening renewed military strikes such as those launched against Iran this past June. US President Trump made threats to assassinate Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and ordered a US aircraft carrier to be moved to the region. US and Zionist figures took to social media saying “we are with you,” making reference to a promise for military strikes should a regime-change attempt be made by the people.

In response to these open threats of invasion and acknowledgement of Western-backed intervention, the Iranian government made the decision to shut off internet in an attempt to halt these violent messages to provocateurs (mostly done through social media companies based in the US like Meta and X) and cut off communication between riot leaders. The government then called for a nationwide mobilization on January 12 under the banner of “National Solidarity and Honoring Peace and Friendship” in which over 6 million people took part. After this overwhelming show of mass unity of Iranians, including those from some opposition parties, against provocateur violence and foreign intervention, the previous protests calling for the overthrow of the government quickly died down.

Yet, Western news has still been awash in a media firestorm claiming that Iranian police and military have killed thousands of peaceful protesters and referring to the country as a “bloodbath” and with Iranian opposition forces and Western corporate media even referring to the current situation as an “Iranian Holocaust.” These outlets have relied almost entirely on people outside of the country, most notably exiled opposition figures and even the son of the former US-backed Shah, the fascist monarchy that ruled the country with an iron fist and gave the US, UK, and “Israel” full access to the country’s oil reserves. A closer look at the sources used in media stories show that they come from agencies with proven links to the US State Department or other agencies: Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRANA), Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI), Tavaana, the Iran Disinformation Project, and the Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran.

Despite Western media’s near complete blackout over the US-Zionist genocide of Palestine and its attempt to block the horrifying images of hospital bombings, children being torn apart by airstrikes and tanks, forced starvation, environmental catastrophe, and other crimes inflicted on the people of Gaza, the world has born witness to the brave work of journalists and everyday Palestinian people getting out these images despite total internet shut downs by the Zionists. Yet, despite their near-monopoly on satellite and surveillance technology and control over news airwaves and social media, the combined force of US intelligence gathering and its media empire have failed to show anything close to incontrovertible evidence of their claims of supposed massacres committed by the Iranian military, notwithstanding the use of force and arrests to quell provocateur violence.

Official reports from Iran expose the scale and intentionality of such provocateur violence, marking a clear rupture from the organized and demand-oriented nature of initial protests. Rioters deliberately targeted government centres and public infrastructure – among them over 180 ambulances nationwide, bus stations, fire trucks, and medical facilities – alongside banks, commercial centers, and private property. Mosques and other religious sites were also violently attacked, with nearly half of those targeted in Tehran destroyed. A further 26 residential homes in Tehran were set ablaze. The cities of Shiraz and Rasht endured similar destruction; in Rasht, two nurses were tragically martyred when rioters attacked a medical facility. Such an assault on life, livelihood, and essential services is incompatible with a pursuit of improved living standards, and bears the unmistakable fingerprints of Zionist and US sabotage.

The Western imperialist propaganda offensive against Iran has nothing to do with the concern for human rights and democracy for the Iranian people but is instead an inseparable tool of violent regime change and further plans for imperialist war by the fascist Trump regime with the help of its Zionist puppet in West Asia, to ultimately control and steal Iran’s vast natural resources. While the UN Human Rights Council called for an emergency session on Iran, the same UN stalled inactive as a genocide was (and still is) carried out on the Palestinian people and as the President and First Combatant of Venezuela were kidnapped following the murder of nearly 100 Venezuelans at sea. Trump’s threats to launch military strikes against Iran if “peaceful protesters are killed” by the government comes as Trump’s fascist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers brutally killed a US protester standing in solidarity with migrants facing racist and xenophobic violence, detention and medical neglect while imprisoned, and enforced disappearance and deportation.

The attempts at regime change and justification for renewed military strikes against Iran cannot be separated from the continuity of US, Zionist and Western fascism and their desperate imperial offensive to confront rivals, preserve global hegemony and secure control over natural resources. US-Zionist strikes in June were justified through false and hypocritical claims of Iran producing nuclear weapons, while this time the excuse has been on the protection of human rights in the country. In both scenarios, the US and Zionists have relied on the same hybrid warfare strategy of false media narratives to manufacture consent for strikes, attempts that failed both times. This offensive is advanced with the support of the US’s European allies, who arrogantly condemn the Iranian government, while brutally suppressing popular uprisings on their own soil.

The ILPS stands with the Iranian people in their continued fight to defend their sovereignty from imperialist intervention. ILPS stands arm in arm with the toiling people of the world and all those fighting for liberation in denouncing the attacks against Iran and exposing the attempts to overthrow the Iranian government and replace it with a US and Zionist-friendly puppet as what happened in Syria and is threatening to happen in Venezuela. Only a broad anti-imperialist united front of the people, expressed through mass organizations, national liberation movements, and anti-imperialist governments, can withstand the rising fascist offensive and imperialist wars for plunder and usher in a bright future for all humanity.

Condemn the Capture of President Maduro and US Invasion of Venezuela!

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle vehemently condemns the blatant invasion of Venezuela by US military forces that bombed military and civilian targets and culminated in the illegal capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. This act is the latest in a months-long campaign by the Trump regime to blockade and wage war on the Venezuelan people in order to seize their sovereign land and resources and enact regime change in Venezuela that will bow to US economic interest.

It is unclear as of this writing how many deaths and injuries were caused by the US airstrikes, but what is clear is the complete disregard for civilian lives by the US. This utterly exposes their false justification of acting on behalf of “peace and freedom” for the people of Venezuela. Previous US airstrikes off the coasts of Venezuela and Colombia have already killed over 100 people and damaged the economic livelihood of Venezuela’s fishing sector.

This aggression did not start with Trump’s escalation over the past few months but instead follows years of systematic aggression by the previous Trump, Biden, Obama, and Bush regimes since Venezuela declared its complete independence from US economic dominance of its oil sector and elected Hugo Chavez as President. The capture of Maduro to stand trial within a US court for so-called “Narco Terrorism” mirrors the same fate of Panamanian President Manuel Noriega who, after years of ruling under US patronage, was overthrown and captured during the 1989 US invasion of Panama and tried in the US. This latest act is in line with Trump’s declaration of his “New Monroe Doctrine” that is merely a resurrected name for the same US imperialist strategy to openly confront its economic rivals like China and Russia and maintain its position as number one imperialist power in the world.

The US has repeatedly made clear through its actions that it is the number one violator of international law and most dangerous imperialist in the world today, with the capture of Maduro being just the latest example. This follows the US and Zionist war against Iran, the complete US support for the genocidal Zionist onslaught against Palestine and all of West Asia, recent airstrikes impacting civilian areas of Nigeria, and many more examples of US complete disregard for international law and unbridled violence to desperately hold onto its crumbling position of world imperialist hegemon.

The people of Venezuela are rallying to defend their sovereignty. The masses have taken to the streets en masse and armed themselves to boldly stand up against foreign imperialist aggression to defend their country. The Venezuela government has mobilized to defend the people and respond to the US aggression. The people and government of Venezuela have called on the people of the world to stand in solidarity with their fight to defend their land and the victories of the Bolivarian Revolution. ILPS calls on its members to answer this call and take to the streets and outside of US embassies to express mass indignation against US imperialist aggression. The League stands with the people of Venezuela and the wider region of Latin America and the Caribbean in the defense of sovereignty, economic livelihood, and the struggle for just and lasting peace.

Statement of the ILPS on the Occassion of the Al Aqsa Flood Anniversary 2025

The International League of People’s Struggle joins the Palestinian people and all freedom loving people of the world in celebrating the second anniversary of the Al Aqsa Flood operation against the US-Zionist occupation, and calls on all of its members to heighten their solidarity to end the genocide of the Palestinian people. The Al Aqsa Flood campaign exposes in stark terms the apartheid of occupation on Palestinian lands and achieved through the capture of “Israeli” captives by resistance forces the weakness of the overweening power of Zionist fascism.

The US-Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people has raged on for the past two years. At least 65,000 are confirmed dead from bombardment, shelling, and indiscriminate gunfire from the Zionists. Hundreds of thousands more are still missing under the rubble or have been systematically starved to death by occupation forces. Aid has been deliberately blocked and used as a weapon to lure people in Gaza into death traps to be shot by the combination of Zionist soldiers and the US special forces of the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” that amounts to nothing more than a mercenary gang under the control of “Israel.” Complete destruction of sanitation systems, healthcare facilities, food production areas, and other crimes have had the goal of manufacturing an ecological disaster in Gaza to force the people to either die or leave to make way for Zionist resettlement of the area under the patronage of Western financial investors.

Yet the Palestinian people continue to fight on. October 7 2023 launched the heroic Al Aqsa Flood national liberation operation that pushes the Palestinian resistance to fight back until today, and the people in general to remain steadfast on their land by any means necessary. While the Trump-backed “Peace Plan” that the US and Zionists have offered to the resistance attempts to destroy the political power of Palestine over Gaza, the resistance remains united and clear eyed in their responses at the negotiating table and on the battlefield. Meanwhile, the people of the West Bank have continued to rise up and resist the attempts of the Zionist military to implement their annexation plans as the people fight to keep Palestine united as one.

The Zionist regime is near collapse and more isolated than anytime before with the fascist Netanyahu regime fully exposed for its utterly corrupt and bloodthirsty character, while the inherently genocidal nature of the Zionist settler colonial project in Palestine throughout its entire history is on the minds of more people around the world than ever before. As the resistance and the people remain steadfast to the principles of self-determination and ending the genocidal war led by the US and Zionists, the people of the world continue to pressure their governments to cut their ties with the Zionist entity in solidarity with the people of Palestine. Longtime supporters of the Zionist entity have been forced to cancel arm shipments after having been pressured by mobilization of the people of their countries, while popular governments such as Colombia have cut all ties diplomatically, and independent anti-imperialist governments such as Iran and Yemen continue to confront the Zionists openly in solidarity with Palestine as part of the Axis of Resistance.

The ILPS recently launched the “Right to Resist” International People’s Tribunal for Palestine to contribute to the global solidarity efforts of the Palestinian people, after calling for the convening of such a Tribunal during its 7th International Assembly. The Tribunal, to be held in Barcelona this November 22 – 23, will have witnesses testifying to the horrors of the US-Zionist genocidal crimes of ecocide and forced starvation, but also to the steadfastness of the Palestinian people to remain on their land by any means necessary.

The US and Zionists have been unable to break the will of the resistance and the people. The global solidarity movement taking to the streets, and even the seas in the case of the Global Sumud Flotilla, have continued to unite with their numbers swelling in hundreds of thousands to fight for an end to the genocide, break the siege, and assert the right to resist.

October 7th is a beacon for all national liberation movements and anti-imperialist struggles that shows what is possible when a people stand united and with a will to give any sacrifice as a price for freedom. This October 7th 2025, the world must continue to stand with Palestine.
